What gov"t(s) choose to do or not do about a specific problem. What gov"t(s) do to shape our interactions with the state & other members of society. Public policies may be summarized & compared according to outputs classified into 4 types: Distribution: provides goods & services to public, in direct or indirect ways, tax breaks, health care, unemployment. Extraction: meant to tax something & put it elsewhere. Regulation: carbon emission policies, children/per adult in daycare. Symbolic outputs: change or give perception of state through creative policy. Is it based on performance? (how much you have put into the system) Do they set boundaries? (must be below an income to receive benefits) Whether success of family is a gov"t problem needing intervention.
