Reintroducing normative approach to political theory - what are our rights, freedoms, obligations. Core part of theory of justice is social contract. There is inherent dignity and respect that everyone deserves. Guiding idea: society should use self interested persons would agree to in a position of original equality. Society is system of cooperation between persons. Society decides what is just and unjust. Parties in veil of ignorance so no one is advantaged or disadvantaged. No one knows their place in society. Will be denied their intellectual ability/talents and wont know if their talents are of value. Contractors have to decide rules and when veil is lifted, they get traits randomly. Everyone given some measure of control to outcome and your share is as valuable as everyone else"s. Contractors make decisions under circumstances of justice - know they will comprise a single state and live in moderate scarcity (there are a lot of resources but everyone can"t have whatever they want)
