Drugs a chemical substance that, when taken into the body, alters the structure or functioning of the body in some way. No perfect definition to distinguish drugs from non drugs. Draw distinction in terms of whether the substance in question has been intended to be used primarily as a way of inducing a bodily of physical change. Psychoactive drugs affect our feelings, perceptions and behaviours. Instrumental use refers to the motivation of a drug user who takes the drug for a specific purpose other than getting high. Recreational use takes the drug only to get high or achieve some pleasurable effect. Drug misuse drug-taking behaviour in which a prescription or over the counter drug is used inappropriately. Dose may be increased beyond the rx level (1 is good so 2 must be better) Drug may be continued beyond the intended use. May be combined with some other drug. May be shared with a family member.
