Courts deal with both civil and criminal cases. Criminal cases an act allegedly committed as found in the criminal code of canada. Civil cases involve a breach of contract or other claims of harm. Verdicts do not necessarily have to be unanimous. The crown or defense can use a peremptory challenge to reject jurors who they believe are unlikely to reach a verdict in their favour. Does not have to provide reasoning for their peremptory challenge. Have 20 peremptory challenges in a murder trial, 12 normally: co(cid:373)(cid:373)o(cid:374)alities i(cid:374)(cid:272)lude: minimum age requirements exempt professions.
