Document Summary
There are 4 main structures of the immune system: lymph nodes, thymus, spleen, long bones. Types: innate: skin, mucous mbs, phagocytes, natural killer cells, cytokines, complement factors, acquired: t and b lymphocytes, plasma-cell secreted antibodies. Innate: nk cells increase during this exercise and fall after, macrophages increase training improves their function as well, cytokines increase, neutrophils increase. Innate: nk cells decrease in recovery, neutrophils decrease. Acquired: lymphocytes decrease, antibody production iga is impaired, decrease cd4 to cd8 ratio. We see a brief decrease in: ciliary action, mucosal iga, nk cell count and activity, t lymphocyte count, cd4 to cd8 ratio (fights diseases entering the body) Regular, moderate exercise decreases risk of respiratory infection vs sedentary individuals but strenuous, intense exercise increases risk of infection above that or sedentary individuals. This is a test to see if someone should participate in exercise. Symptoms below neck myalgia, cough, fever >38. 5, chills, vomiting, diarrhea etc.
