Document Summary

The questions are difficult, and the answers are undoubtedly complex. Social psychology: is the scientific study of how individuals"" thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are influenced by other people. Influenced by other people: thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, Also affected by someone"s imagined presence or actions. How other people affect every aspect of individual lives including thoughts (cognitions), feelings (affect), behaviours. Ultimate goal of science: understand why various kinds of actions toward other people occur or do not occur, such as conformity, aggression, helping, and discrimination. Social constructs: how individuals personally interpret or perceive a social situation. The important point: like any science, social psychology involves collecting data to test predictions. One important reason individuals fail to intervene is that they rely on other people to interpret the event. Unfortunately for the victim: all of the individuals may be looking at one another for cues about how to respond, with the result that no one does anything.
