Psychology 2210A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Classical Conditioning, Operant Conditioning, Latent Inhibition
Document Summary
Interval reinforcing a response based on length of time: fixed interval first response following certain length of time receives a reward, variable interval first response following variable length of time receives a reward. Partial vs. continuous reinforcement: acquisition is faster and declines more quickly with continuous, responses persist longer with partial. Superstitious behaviours: when an animal is reinforced randomly they will begin to form associations between behaviours that are accidentally reinforced and the reinforcement. Associative processes do not work all the time but are adaptations due to natural selection and variable across species. Classical conditioning: allows for stimuli to be predicted in environment, blue gourami fish 2 groups, red light goes on which indicates another male is going to enter the area. Control group there was no light indication the male just entered: found that there was an increase in aggressive displays for the fish with the light as they were able to predict the presence of another male.
