How common r jury trails? most trials are trials. most canadians believe that if they end up being in a court, they ll have a jury trail right. it is very rare in real life. Two types of trials: civil trials ( ex. sue for not paying a rent) ( disputes btw citizens/groups) No absolute right to a jury trial ( depends on provincial legislation), allowed in ontario not quebec: criminal trial ( offences against the crown. ) The role of juries: they apply the law (as defined by judjes, to the admissible evedence, render a unanimous verdict of guilty or not guilty. Two characteristics of good jury? a freind cant be a jury to u according to suprime court: representitive of community where the crime occured ( look like and resemble the community). select to represent a broad section of community. Ontario: must be canadian citizen, live in ontario and 18+. Things to note about selection procedure: - no guarantee.
