Document Summary
Statistics: the numbers given out in statists are called distribution , frequency distribution tells us how many people get a particular score. To find the mean: add up all the numbers and divide by the amount there are. To find the median (mdn): midpoint of a ranked distribution. To find the mode: the number that appears the most often. The range is the difference between the highest and lowest score: this can be influenced by extreme scores (outliers, same value can be obtained with a variety of scores. Variance (s2: degree of fluctuation of scores around the mean, some distributions have high variance, others have low, often use: standard deviation (s or sd, want standard deviation to be lower vs. higher. Z-scores: score the mean / standard deviation, gives you the standard deviation units away from the mean, z-scores are normally distributed with a mean of 0 and standard deviation score of 1.
