Creation of a global village (marshal mcluhan came up with this idea: factors in creation of a global village: you can transfer goods around the world. Internet, access funds on the go (banking on your phone), more people are learning and speaking english. Now have benefit of rapid movement of capital, commodities, culture, and people across national boundaries. Consequences of mass globalization: economic disparity, child mortality rates. Mcluhan took up innis ideas and extended them. He studied the effect of printing on society. Big thing was the production of the press, changed how info was transmitted from person to person. No longer had to be face to face interaction, could now be written. Globalization in everyday life: our actions have implications for people far away: our purchases have implications for people across the world. Marxists would say it would be unrealistic to have goods imported from far away.
