In a meritocracy society, inequality still exists but; The outcome of open and fair processes (e. g. schooling) Our complex division of labour requires diverse jobs and talents. A society of only brain surgeons and lawyers are doomed. Meritocratic processes sort people into roles dependent on their talent and effort. We will accept that others who are smarter and work harder will end up doing better and achieving more. Sociological key concept: functionalism= integrative relationships and contributions to the maintenance of society. In canada schooling is free= therefore universal access, and it is a mandatory law. School is based on a progressive system (grade one to high school), there are certain things you have to have by the end of schooling that is common between all.
