Lecture 11 change through government and social movements. The measure of income inequality in comparison to health and social problems (i. e. mortality rates, life expectancy rates, etc. ) Countries w/ high levels of inequality also have high levels of social and health problems. The more inequality that a country has, the more social/health problems the country will have. Use of an international testing program that measures math and reading comprehension. The higher the inequality in the country, the more likely children in the country w/ have more problems w/ basic numeracy and literacy skills. Argue that these societies are highly competitive w/ lower levels of trust. The more income equal countries tend to have lower rates of teenage pregnancy, while it is the opposite for highly unequal countries. Highly unequal societies push people into high levels of criminal behaviour. The more unequal society, the more homicides that occur. Life expectancy tends to decline with income inequalities.
