Generalize neo-tribes as if all youth have fluid identities. There are only a subset of young people with fluid identities (spectacular youth) Qualitative research is subject to the confirmation bias. Gives people various strategies with which to interact with other people on a daily basis. Conformity-inducing culture is so big that people are so embedded into it and must conform to it. Agency facilitating occurs when we take elements of the culture and put it together. Over the last 200 years, young people have been segregated from adults in the economy. For most of history, there was no segregation between youth and adults. In iceland, they had the greatest teen drinking problems. Researchers found the void and families and the communities filled in the void. The working class got extremely involved in rock music. A response to the oppression that they were feeling as the working class and young people. Moved from a structural/realist orientation to a post-modernist/nominalist expectation.
