Studies have shown that women who watched a negative commercial about women"s intelligence score lower on a math test. These results have been seen in different races as well. Jane elliot was a school teacher who tested this effect with her school children based on eye colour and then tested them on certain tasks. Being treated as inferior changes attitudes and behavior dramatically: the stereotype effect can lead to a self-fulfilling prophecy. Labelling theory: if you label an individual a certain way, they will act/behave to conform to that certain way (ex. If you tell a student that they won"t do well and that they"re incompetent, they then will do poorly in classes and tests) When talking about inequality in regards to race and ethnicity relations: the majority (dominant) group is advantaged, and has superior resources and rights in society, usually based on ethnicity and race factors.
