Transitions from school to work: in class notes. From curriculum-oriented subject matter to an emphasis on growing personality. Before: focus on content and reproducing material. After: emphasis on self and social development: motivation, cooperative learning and mental hygiene, moved from an authoritarian, to a permissive system. Traditionally: make available tools of learning, open up new horizons, help understand cultural heritage (not only your own, but other peoples" heritage) Now: students aren"t as resilient because they are used to failing, stress, and deadline. Education/classes is an annoying detour on their way to their degree . In north america overestimated value of education at all occupational levels. Consequences: less education means fewer opportunities, more education is demanded than the job requires. But no relation between education and the factors that make you successful in the workforce : work productivity, turnover rates, work satisfaction, promotion, success in business. Apparent differences: enter labor force at higher levels.
