Women are smaller in size than men, advertising exaggerates this and this defines a superior status: leaning over the woman. Ritualization of subordination, usually women lying down: rarely see men in this position, women of colour usually lying down, animal like, vulnerable, submissive. Increasingly slim, not threatening: women curling up, scared, innocent look on face, non-dominant. Objectified: cut into pieces, only some parts of body are shown. With feminine touch: women are usually posed caressing themselves or something, hands on their face, whereas men are usually holding something, making use of their hands. In childlike poses: women are made to look younger, 23 year old looks 15. It"s okay to do it to women but not to men: usually advertising womens perfume, d&g perfume, cutting apples in provocative pose, phallic imagery. Demeaning positions: extra large condom ad, licking bottom of shoe. As victims of violence: mixed messages, mock assaults d&g.
