Document Summary
Advertising and culture are co-dependent one influences the other. Culture = language, communication, courtesies, rituals, roles, customs, relationships, practices, expected behaviours, values, thoughts, manners of interacting, etc. Often just think of our behaviours, but also includes our thoughts and values. Three requirements: large social grouping, shares the same geographic territory, same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. Some argue that we don"t have a canadian culture no defining characteristics. Many would argue against that we have a set of values, way of being. What we produce, what we use also represent who we are as well as how we think/behave. Passed from person to person and generation to the next. We are a combination of nature (biology) and nurture (the social environment: debates regarding which is more important, ex: we eat breakfast when we wake up in the morning, most likely because we"re hungry (biological part). The nurture part is what you choose to have for breakfast.
