Document Summary
Physicians have autonomy over their condiions and terms of work. Physicians have control over the work of other occupaions in the health care ield. Four threats to medical dominance: the state, the public, other health care occupaions, form within medicine itself, the state. Greater state intrusion in areas previously controlled by physicians: Both federal and provincial governments have atempted to control the costs of health care by clawing back physician income over a certain threshold. E. g. , ontario government tried to rollback the wages of physicians in the mid. 1990s, but in the end, the government gave doctors what they wanted and cut back the wages of most other health care workers. E. g. , alberta: minister of health cut short negoiaions on fee-for-service payments and imposed a setlement on doctor compensaion- doctors revolted and government reached new agreement. Related: have also given other health care occupaions powers that were previously only given to medical doctors: control over physician training/supply.
