Society (macro) --> social institutions (meso) --> individuals (micro) Macro (structured social relations: social categories, social class, gender relation, race/ethnicity/culture, age relations, sexual orientation, globalization. Mezo (social institutions: media, schools, communities, the work force. Important transitions such as, graduating, getting married having children, and retirement. There are expectations of certain life stages to occur at a certain age. There are two important components to aging and society theory and research methods. Ethnocultural minority seniors: seniors whose ethnicity, religion, race, or culture are. Income and ses can lead to different outcomes of aging different from mainstream canadians. Ageism is systematic stereotyping of and discrimination against people because they are old.
