People are held back from their potential by social forces. Criticalists seem very pessimistic: this is just a judgement; they are actually quite optimistic, we can overcome these powerful figures, we do have free will. Interpretive = we depend on common sense; in order to understand people, we need to understand their common sense. Positivists = logically consistent and follows from observed facts. Critical = what you do to determine whether something is true/false is you apply it to your everyday. Criticalists = whatever allows you to discover exploitation; deconstructs our myths.
