Non-reactive quantitative research & secondary data analysis: february 29 th , Reactive measurement: occurs when the subject knows or suspects that their behaviour is under scrutiny. To some degree, the behaviour of the subject is in reaction to the observer"s presence and hence may be modified and distorted from the natural response. Non-reactive measurement: behavioural observations we obtain without the study participant"s awareness. Research in which data collection does not involve direct elicitation from or interaction with the study participants. Types: comparative and historical research, content analysis, naturalistic observation (non-participant observation), secondary data analysis. Topics appropriate to this method: tracing the development of social policies over time, comparing historical events (e. g. , women"s movement) phenomenon policies across counties. After verified as authentic, move to the next step identify any assumptions, value positions and historical significance for the analysis purpose. Four types of comparative-historical research: locating, evaluating and systematic interpretation and analysis of sources found in archives.
