Automatic thinking: describes thinking that is non-conscious, unintentional, involuntary, and effortless (i. e. ) The stroop test: automatic thinking can be distinguished from the controlled by not, its occurrence outside of awareness, being guided by intention, being subject to deliberate control, involving effort; and, being slow and cumbersome but fast and efficient. Automatic structures rely on knowledge structures, which are organized packets of information that are stored in memory.
