Purpose: was to educate and care for aboriginal people, learn english and adopt. Natives did not do well in independent society removing children from family would not influence. More work than education, punished when spoken own language. Civilization savages, as young as the age of 4 taken from home. Were discouraged from speaking their first language or practicing native traditions. Lived in substandard conditions places poorly built, up north detects lead to death. Rarely had opportunities to see examples of normal family life. Attended school 10 months a year, away from their parents, cant make trips. Couldn"t communicate with parents, rarely saw siblings. No longer felt they belonged on reserve.
