Marx - moves beyond evolutionary approach by saying humans have capacity. Habermas instead uses legitimization crisis by including cultures and ideas and a legitimization culture occurs. Action and communication is instrumentally based lifeworld: communication - open ended - spheres people learn customs - cultural know how.
