Strause said culture was structured and that structure was an analysis of structure. View social and culture phenomena as signs parts of differential systems, not as having meaning in themselves. That structure determines the position of every element. The structure is hidden or obscure most of the time but it is the (cid:498)real thing(cid:499) beneath the surface. Focus on coexistence rather than change (ex proceed synchronically rather than diachronically) Structuralism tries to think a structure without a centre. We are not the center, language is the center. Language is a system of differences, not from people who are engaged of using the structure. The meaning of our actions comes from systems and structures, not from us. We don"t speak language, language speaks us, we don"t create culture, language.
