Instead of reacting emotionally the metropolitan type reacts primarily in a rational manner . Rational attitude of the urban person that develops as a defense against the disruptive conditions of the city, especially the concentration of difference and increase in pace. A purely matter-of-fact attitude in the treatment of persons and things . Striking contrast to the emotional attitude/ sensitivity of the small town person. The blas metropolitan attitude [derives also] from a money economy. The essence of the blas attitude is an indifference toward the distinction between things.
