Criminal justice: the study of crime, criminal law and components of the criminal justice system including the police, courts, and corrections. The concept of criminal justice is multi-dimensional. The normative system (social norms: folkways, common courtesy, mores, norms that are morally enforced, laws, laws are laws. Earliest known written legal code by king hammurabi of babylonia. Models of criminal law: the two theoretical views (consensus model and the conflict model) Consensus model: criminal laws reflect wide value consensus (laws are supported by everyone) Conflict model: laws originate in conflict of interest of different groups (certain laws are not supported by everyone) Consensual crimes: murder, robbery, rape, skyjacking, breaking and entering. Non-consensual crimes: vagrancy, gambling, prostitutions, pornography, minor drinking, abortion, smoking marijuana.
