Administrative agencies engage in lawmaking through rulemaking and through adjudication of cases arising under their jurisdiction: know the two ways (rule making and adjudication) Administrative agencies pursue both civil remedies and criminal sanctions to promote compliance with regulatory and administrative laws. Single most important functions carried out by a government agency. A rule: a law made by a administrative agency. Agencies state regulatory policy through rulemaking: example: workers compensation act, how to reimburse someone who is injured on the job. Workers compensation board that oversees this act. Policies that attempts to fulfill goal of the act. Decides who is able to receive compensation under what grounds someone will qualify/how much money they will receive and for how long. The process by which an administrative agency issues an order. Adjudication is the equivalent of a judicial trial. Only applies to a specific, limited number of parties (1 plaintiff, 1 defendant) Limitation: inconsistencies: no stare decisis (no precedents are being followed)
