Victimology a subfield of criminology that focuses on the relationship between victims and perpetrators of crimes, against the backdrop of social institutions such as the criminal justice system. Victim characteristics: age, gender, household income, marital status and sexual orientation, race and ethnicity, repeat victimization. Victim precipitation theory: the theory that some people make themselves targets for victimization, through their actions or inaction, a common, current example of this way of thinking is the idea that women provoke sexual victimization by dressing provocatively. Lifestyle theory/model: the theory that some people experience a greater risk of being victims of crime because of their lifestyle habits and patterns of behavior, equivalent group hypothesis, proximity hypothesis, deviant place hypothesis.
