Violent crime a general category of crime that includes homicide, attempted murder, robbery, assault, and other mostly indictable offences that involve the physical violation (e. g. death or injury) of a person. The criminal code recognizes three levels of sexual assault: level 1 assault (s. 271): there is no serious bodily harm or physical injury to the victim. A slap across the face does not constitute level 2 assault: level 3 assault (s. 273): the victim is disfigured, maimed, wounded, or has his or her life endangered.
