Seriousness of crime: type of crime affects when your record closes, summary offences at least probation or more, open for 3 years after. Info gained stays in their files, regardless or youth vs adult records (even if in canada info is closed) and will remain open forever. If have a conviction or record involving drugs, they will not let you in. Indigenous offenders as youth are more likely to be sentenced and treated as adults within cjs this meaning they will get adult records which never close and last forever. Indigenous youth are disproportionately sentenced to custody or held in remand: custody sentences for indigenous youth are longer, disproportionately held in secure custody.
