Lecture agenda: part one: the portrayal, part two: the facts, part three: the implications, part four: the important role the media can play. Media can be powerful source for change! Examples of models: unbreakable violent model, the unstable, the unpredictable, hearing voices that tell them to do it. Think about these models in these examples: subway pusher, mass shooter, stalker. If in psych ward never would have happening: schizophrenia is genetic drugs, media story starting with all these horrible things that have happened (very recently) then have videos of people who have mental illness. Man who has gun in his home but has not been violent at all just labelled schizophrenic. Group of people who have been violent and do have mental illness then there are people who have mental illness and now have the concept that these people are dangerous.
