Overt & covert trends within society whereby those lacking desirable traits or who deviate from social norms are excluded from legitimate market place. Mcjob: seasonal, temporary, contingent, split shift, females and minority women, low wages, low status, no benefits, little advancement, last hired- first fired, boring work, no sense of self-esteem, often turn to prostitution and sexual exploitation. Pink-collar jobs, part-time /contract work, low-skilled, lack living wage. 41% of canadian women involved in non-standard labour . 24% of single mothers 5x likely to be poor. 14 % of single older women poverty rate 13x higher. Women - 60% of minimum wage earners. Full time year round making 85 cents to the dollar of men. Drift low econ. /social rewards lead to criminal involvement. Limited access, joblessness, criminogenic hoods, early criminal involvement & drug use. Role engulfment - schur: drugs control their life. Csc drug-related offences = 35% of federally sentenced women vs. 18% of federally sentenced men.
