Living on the edge: the first fort erie. Fort erie is best known for the role it played in the war of 1812. In 1814, it was the site of the only siege (defences) of the war. For 6 weeks 100s of british and american troops & first nations people died in the assault and defense of the fort. Fort erie has (cid:271)ee(cid:374) (cid:272)alled ca(cid:374)ada(cid:859)s bloodiest battlefield. The battlefield was investigated by wlu field schools in 2012 and 2013. The first fort erie is the oldest british military fort in the province. The overriding research objective is to study how the people at this settlement adapted.
