Document Summary

Ancient romans and greeks believed gravity to be a magical force that pulled objects towards the earth. It wasn"t until isaac newton proposed that gravity was not limited to just earth. He suggested that all objects have a force of attraction to each other. He called this idea the universal law of gravitation. Johannes kepler motion of the planets was elliptical. Sir issac newton - every body in the universe attracts every other body. Newton"s law of universal gravitation states every body attracts another body with a force which is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centres and directly proportional to their mass. The magnitude of this force depends on two things: the mass of the objects involved. The more massive the object the stronger the gravity: the distance that separates them. The farther apart the objects the weaker the gravity the unit for force is newtons (1 n = 100g of weight)
