Document Summary

Module 6: water: polar substances dissolve readily in water. Hydrophobic molecules: they have no polar regions, they don"t carry any types of charge they do not interact electrostatically with water, and they distrupt hydrogen bonding in the water they coalesce with eachther. They want to interact with other hydrophobic molecules hydrophobic interactions are a major driving force in folding of molecules (like protiens) assembly of cellular stuctures, and membrane organization. The tails want to associate with other hydrophobic molecules. They create a phospholipid bilayer phospholipid bilayers they spontaneously form the layer because of their amphipathic structure liposome (vesicle) has an aqueous solution in the middle. Module 13: cells: cells compose organisms, or they can be organisms themselves on their own. Multicellular organisms consist of many cells that have specialized cells for different functions, but they have the same basic structure.
