Some vascular plants evolved separate male and female gametophytes. Perfect lowers (ex: lily: both stamens and carpels on same lower. Imperfect lowers: stamens or carpels, not both. Outer whorl layer, provides protecion and atracion. Whorl 1- sepals: non- ferile, vegetaive. Whorl 3- stamens (male reproducive parts: ferile, locaion or gametophytes. Whorl 4- carpel (female reproducive parts: ferile, locaion of gametophytes. Monoecious plant: male lowers and female lowers (staminate and pisilate lowers) on the same plant: ex: corn, top of stem is where they dispense pollen. Dioecious plant: some plants with only male lowers, some with only female lowers. Dichogamy: sequenial hermaphrodiism in a perfect lower, protandry: male phase comes before the female phase, protogyny: female phase comes before the male phase. The two lowering types are a and b.
