Values: broad tendency to prefer certain states of affairs over others. Preference means that values involve what we consider good and bad. Most values are socially reinforced by parents, teachers, and representatives of religions. Values are motivational since they signal the attractive aspects that we seek and unattractive aspects we try to avoid/change ig(cid:374)al ho(cid:449) (cid:449)e (cid:271)elie(cid:448)e (cid:449)e should or should(cid:374)"t (cid:271)ehave. Important because a good fit (cid:271)et(cid:449)ee(cid:374) perso(cid:374) & fir(cid:373)"s (cid:448)alues = positi(cid:448)e (cid:449)ork attitudes & (cid:271)eha(cid:448)iours. Earlier generations remain relatively quiet at first, and earned their place. But each new generation was freer and more rebellious than the previous one influences work attitudes & behaviour. All generations share same values but express them differently. Generations x and y and latchkey kids experienced more divorce, so are less likely to value authority. X and y are more inclined to value status and rapid career growth, but have more self-esteem. Traditionalists (1922-1945): smallest and oldest group, post-war generation.
