Communication: effective communication, occurs when the right person gets the right info at the right time. Chain of command: the lines of authority and formal reporting relationships in an organization, downward, upward, horizontal, problems. Informal communication: not considered by chain of command models, filtering, tendency for a message to be watered down or stopped, slowness, especially slow for horizontal communication. Refers to the specialized language used by job holders or members of particular occupations or organizations. Non verbal language: body language, communication occurs by body motions and facial expressions from the sender, props, artifacts, costumes, non-verbal communication through the use of various objects. Assume the feedback giver is trying to be helpful. Language differences: nonverbal communication, etiquette and politeness, social conventions, cultural text. Overcoming communication barriers: take the time, be accepting of the other person, address the problem not the person, say what you feel, give timely and effective feedback.
