Document Summary

From an organizational perspective, why do we care about perceptions: perceptions influence, behaviours, our sense of fairness, our understanding of situations, our own levels of motivation, job satisfaction, productivity, etc. Selective perception: selectively interpreting what you see on the basis of your interest, background, experience, and attitudes, we screen out information that we are uncomfortable with or that is inconsistent with our beliefs. Attribution: perceiving causes and moves: attribution is the process by which we assign causes or motives to explain people"s behaviour, about understanding why, dispositional (internal) or situational (external) factors, remember: could be both. Attribution theory (kelly: consensus: the extent to which other people in the same situation behave in the same way, between-person, attribution cues that reflect how a person"s behaviour compares to others. Low consistency leads us to consider situational attributions: distinctiveness: the extent to which the same person behaves in different situations, within person, across situations.
