Note: office hours on friday morning during reading week from 10am to noon. For midterm review: look at some theory but most quant info and examples. Defining reliability and stating two ways of using it. Reliability measure of ability of product or part to perform to intended fns under certain set of conditions; it"s a probability; ability to do the fn for a certain amt of time. Reliability of a product is used in two ways. 1) reliability when active: focuses on one point in time, used when product/part must operate for one time, ex: missile, airbag. 2) reliability for given length of time: focus on length of service, ex: car, most products reliability is imp for product quality establish, achieve, maintain reliability objs for product there are reliability engineers. Need to test perform, estimate reliability if not good enough, look at types of failure and effect on product.
