Where the positives outweigh the negatives: kind of like the panopticons but different where mobility is accommodated here but in the panopticons all the subjects had to remain in the same place. = patient: once you cease to be that particular subject, you go to the next enclosure. Each institution (hospital, school, asylum, offices, etc. ) makes up society. Process of individuation is central to discipline. Each of these environments can be understood as a point of subjectificaton through which the individual is constituted as a complete and finished subject of discipline. Thus disciplinary society is comprised of a series of disparate points of internment that the subject must pass through and each time one is supposed to start from zero. Out of disciplinary society, a new society control society has emerged.
