A population that starts with 1000 members and grows 10% annually. How fast is the world"s human population currently growing. We add >2 canadas worth of people to the planet every year. Each time your heart beats 3 babies are born. Each time someone dies, 3 babies are born. If each person on earth stood up, pronounced their name, and sat down. It would take >600 years to complete roll call. By 2025 it will take 1,000 years to complete this exercise. Historically, human birth rates and death rates were fairly similar (i. e. quite high compared with today) Improvements in hygiene, sanitation and health care cause death rates to drop. Birth rates eventually drop as well, but only after a lag period. During this lag period, population numbers grow rapidly. Canada is entering a period of zero natural population increase.
