Document Summary

Sustainable management is necessary to practice especially with limited supply of resources that are important to many. Resource : anything obtained from the environment to meet our needs and wants. We classify all material resources from the environment as perpetual, renewable or nonrenewable. Perpetual resources : a resource that is renewed continuously(never ending supply), this includes solar energy ,tidal, wind energy. Renewable resources : a resource that can be replenished quite quickly through natural processes. Process includes that the resource not be used faster than it is being replaced. Non-renewable resources : resources used faster and for prolonged period then being replaced and allowing natural processes to replace them. Humans have most control over renewable resources. Need to develop strategies that allow us to use the resource at a level that allows natural replacement. For instance, harvesting a forest that allows removal indefinitely without reducing its supply is known as sustainable yield.
