Affluenza: is a term used to describe the unsustainable addition to over consumption and materialism exhibits in lifestyles. It is based on the assumption that we should buy more things. T ( technological impact per unit of consumption) Affluenza is the biggest driver of environmental degradation since it causes people to buy in excess often things they don"t need. However affluence can develop technologies to help reduce pollution and waste and environmental degradation. In developed countries there is a high rate of per capita resource use resulting in high levels of pollution and environmental degradation ( have a large carbon footprint) In developing countries the population size also the resulting degradation of renewable resources as the poor struggle to survive tend to be key factors in total environmental impact. Per capita resource use is low in developing countries.
