ES102 Lecture : ES102 Week 7 Lecture 1.docx
Document Summary
Currently, we are using primarily fossil fuels because they are abundant, cheap, and provide lots of net energy but the use of fossil fuels impact the environment negatively. Cited as clean" energy when first developed in the 1960"s but in 1990"s became less favorable because it is very expensive. Nuclear plants are least productive method because the construction and development is incredibly expensive. The amount of money it takes to build one of these plants will never equal the income, there is a deficit. No intelligent removal of nuclear waste- simply put into a container and held there. A method/proposal is to dig a hole vertically into the ground and store the vats in the hole. Once built inexpensive to maintain ghg emissions, no air pollution creates recreational opportunities (building a dam) flood management. Limitations: limited areas left to build a dam changes habitat upstream and down people petitioning to knock down dams.
