Document Summary

Lecture 13 chapter 6: the learner: pre-instruction. All learners have unique preference for receiving and processing info. Should incorporate instructional strategies for all types of learners. Global learners: learning facilitated when big picture presented prior to details, prefer humour, anecdotes/analogies, and graphics/diagrams, everything they do is a means to the end or to the big picture. Analytic learners: prefer info presented in step-by-step sequential manner en route to main concept, prefer rules, guidelines, and procedures. The way information isreceived and processed = preferred perceptual mode. Table 6. 1 cue words and teaching strategies for each perceptual mode. Learning styles shift based on whether the task is cognitive or motor. Use various assessments to discover a learner"s preferred style: if what you"re doing isn"t working, change it up, people tend to teach the way they learn, which isn"t always good. Know your own learning style: then, make an effort to incorporate strategies from other styles.
