Cause of mental illness: no single cause, biochemical imbalances (depression), genetic, environmental, etc, historically parents blamed if child developed some form of mental illness. Risk factors: family history, malnutrition or exposure to viruses while in the womb, stress (too much or not dealing with it, chronic medical conditions, medication use, child abuse/neglect, lack of friendships or healthy relationships.
