Cosmology : from kosmos" (world or oder) and logia" - the science of the world. Cosmogony : from kosmos" and gonia" - the origin of the world. Before philosophy: hesiod (c 700 bce) - writes the theogony. A theogony and theology: chaos forms and egg in its belly, from which emerge the first deities. Four key points: these are meant to be accounts of how nature works. The contrast to philosophy: rejection of all appeal to the gods tp explain how the world came to be.
