Social comparison theory: festinger, 1954: evaluate our abilities and beliefs by comparing them with those of others, upwards or downwards, parents always think you can be a better version of yourself because others can do it. Attitudes: relatively stable and enduring evaluations of things and people: affective component: how we feel toward an object, behavioural component: how we behave toward an object, cognitive component: what we believe about an object. Affect: stereotypes beliefs about groups of people and their traits, prejudice negative feelings, discrimination harmful behaviour.
